Review: Casual Game Design

Casual Game Design – Designing Play for the Gamer in All of Us

As a game designer / instructor, I try and read any book that I see related to design. While in my schools library, I happened to see this book and it caught my eye. I haven’t seen very many books that cover the casual market, nor had I seen any with the IDGA logo on the cover. It turns out to have the IGDA “Stamp of Approval”, which I had never heard of and apparently doesn’t seem to mean much. Don’t take that as a reflection of the book itself, it’s more about the organization. When I first saw the “stamp” I was a bit excited, thinking that there could be a treasure trove of books I did not know about. So I quickly went to their website and found….nothing. I don’t see any reference to this book on the site at all. That being said, I won’t hold any of that against this text.
